10 Essential Applications for Windows 10
We recommend 10 programs for Windows 10 that will allow you to do almost anything on your PC, and which are also completely free. Windows 10 already has a couple of months between us, and it is the best that Microsoft has offered us. It has been very well received by users, and every day more people install it on their computers.
Although the system includes all the basic applications that we might need: browser, email client, contact manager, multimedia player, task managers, word processors, note-taking applications, etc. There is always more than one thing that a more specialized program needs or there are simply specific tasks for each type of user that require third-party applications. The following are some of my favourites, and they will surely be useful to more than one.
1. Greenshot
Greenshot is an application for taking screenshots, something that can already be done with the Windows Snipping application. However, Greenshot is much more advanced and complete, incorporating many useful functions, such as the ability to upload images to cloud services such as Flickr, Picasa, Imgur, Dropbox, etc., edit the captured captures by adding arrows, text and others. things, or keep a history of recently taken screenshots. Greenshot is completely free, and open source.
2. 7-Zip
Although Windows Explorer can unzip various types of files, installing a specialized application for this task is a good idea to avoid having problems with any compressed file anymore. Winrar is usually the most widely used and well-known, but 7-Zip is also a great option that supports RAR and ZIP archives, and more than 30 other types of compressed formats. 7-Zip is completely free and open source.
3. CCleaner
We talked about CCleaner on past occasions when we suggested applications to perform preventive maintenance on Windows and also to free up disk space. CCleaner is an indispensable tool for any Windows installation, since it allows you to eliminate junk files freeing up space, and making your PC always go as fast and light as possible.
4. Recuva
Recuva is a free application, made by the developers of CCleaner, that serves to recover files that have been accidentally deleted or from discs that are damaged. It also serves to delete files safely and permanently. Another useful tool to have installed, especially in case we accidentally delete something important.
5. f.lux
F.lux is a very simple but very useful application for those of us who spend many hours in front of the computer, especially at night. What it does is apply warmer colours to your monitor at night when there is little external light. This will make your eyes rest considerably by not receiving all the brightness of the screen to the maximum.
6. VLC
VLC is one of the best media file players. It is free, easy to use, light and useful. You can play CDs, DVDs or video files with almost any existing format, it also serves as a music player, and if you do not like its appearance, which is quite simple, there is a directory with skins for all tastes.
7. Wunderlist
Wunderlist was bought by Microsoft a while ago and is one of the best to-do list apps. It is cross-platform too, so you can have it on your mobile devices so you are up to date with your to-do lists wherever you are. For Windows, they have two desktop versions: one for Windows 8.1 and 10 and the other for Windows 7.
8. Mailbird
We have already talked about Mailbird and it is certainly a very complete email client with a simple, intuitive and customizable design with themes of different colours. Also, you can manage social networks like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. There are other built-in apps available, like Todoist, Evernote, Dropbox, Google Calendar, and Google Docs, to name just a few. Mailbird is also free but has a paid version with additional features.
9. Flipboard
Although Flipboard started as an application that only worked on mobile devices, there is a version for Windows 8.1 and 10 that is just as attractive. If you don’t know what this application is, it is a way to create a news magazine, articles, videos and photos from all sources and topics that interest you. It is one of the best ways to keep up with things that interest you. It is free and you can download it from the Windows Store.
10. Foxit Reader
The best-known application to read PDF is Adobe Reader. However, Foxit Reader is much lighter, ideal for computers with moderate resources. With this tool, you can also create PDFs, add notes to the ones you already have and put a digital signature on the documents. It is completely free.
